Beschreibung:
Connected to research and technological development in the HCU Digital City Science, the Data Café explores in interactive classes, new applications of data that stream in urban systems and buildings. Instead of approaching “urban data science” from the available tools, technologies, and devices, we will shift the perspective and investigate the issue from the other end: What meaning could be created from existing city and building information? How can we generate new value from the available data? How digitization affects the contemporary architecture and design of century-old café culture?
We will run the Data Café as a creative Think Tank which will develop a practical use case in the urban development context of Hamburg. The case we will unfold into two directions: 1) a concrete implementation project, 2) a future research challenge. For the first goal, we will team up with technologists, software and real estate developers, architects and urban planners in order to shape a feasible real-world project. For the second goal, we will provide systematic training for the design and writing of a research proposal which shall pave the way for the up taking the concepts and studies developed along the course. Students will be trained to work on design concepts to be presented in the end of the course.

The course ta MA-level students and will be delivered as a block seminar. The working language is English. This course offer to the registered students a range of tools and knowledge to merge architecture with hyper-connectivity, data visualization, and data driven design.
