Beschreibung:
Open Studio is a project class in which students are given a structured time to explore and develop their own architectural ideas and processes. In regular gatherings all participants come together to discuss ideas, approaches, and work with other students, faculty, and guests. A series of presentations, lectures and other inputs will be given during the semester to support individual and collective development.

Objectives
Open Studio aims at establishing the opportunity to collaboratively shape and develop a reflexive learning experience, where students are encouraged to engage in architectural and artistic research, processes, and methods that are fundamentally open as to the result. Beyond disciplinary conventions, design is investigated as a practice that may include various media, text, time based work, installation, etc. The production and reception of architecture is explored in relation to ideas from the history and theory of architecture and to contemporary ideas from other disciplines, such as art, critical and political theory, sociology, etc. Emphasis will be placed on thinking and creating within a collective environment where students will learn to develop personally directed projects in exchange with others.

Methods
Overall the studio work will develop independent research, which uses various architecture and art examples and processes, as well as texts and films, through which students will progressively learn to expand their design knowledge and practice. While projects are in progress, the choices of concepts and materials will evolve and expand. Through this open process students will need to be open minded to take unexpected directions from their original ideas.
Class and individual discussions, one on one critiques, and group critiques are part of the course that will also include several required presentations and deliverables. Individual contributions will play an important role in the learning process of the whole course.
Collective gatherings are in English.
