Zusätzliche Informationen zu Terminen:
Apart from the regular Tuesday-meetings, there will be 3 conferences via Zoom with all partners in Sao Paulo and Lüneburg on Monday 9th November, Monday 7th December and Monday 8th February, always 13:30-17:00 (Central European Time).

Beschreibung:
During the 20th century, Sao Paulo has passed through periods of rapid economic and population growth, accompanied by tremendous problems regarding infrastructure, environment and social issues. Despite many remaining challenges, the city has managed to conduct a transformation process which made living conditions for paulistanos considerably better than decades before. At the same time, but under different conditions and within a European context, also the City of Hamburg has been transformed significantly.

This international interdisciplinary seminar takes places in cooperation with the study groups of Prof. Dr. David M. Sperling (Universidade de Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos), Dr. Carol Tonetti (Escola da Cidade, Sao Paulo) and Prof. Dr. Ursula Kirschner (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg). Sao Paulo students' background is Architecture and Planning, Lüneburg students' is Cultural Sciences, while HCU's students of Urban Planning, Architecture, Metropolitan Culture and REAP are able to join.

A planned visit by part of the Brazilian students in Germany has been postponed due to the pandemic and cannot take place during the winter semester 2020/21. For this reason, the seminar will be developed online via Zoom, with partly joined and partly separate group meetings, parallely in Germany and Brazil. The time difference between Brazil and Germany is 5 hours (European summer time), repectively 4 hours (European winter time).

The objective of the seminar is to discuss topics, exchange knowledge and opinions concerning recent urban development, culture and architecture in Hamburg and Sao Paulo. Small working groups shall select and define common research topics which:
- Related to urban commons or good practices within their cities,
- Inspire a comparison between both cities, based on the selected good practices and
- Allow to elaborate an approach for a policy transfer in both directions,
- Or formulate a hypothesis regarding some occasional changes for a better future of the two cities, caused or provoked by the pandemic.

At the end of the course, several kind of "products" are possible to be submitted by the student groups. The students will define these products themselves. For example a final paper, multimedia works, film presentations etc.

During the course, the tutors will give several inputs and guide the students regarding the definition of their specific research topics.

The seminar requires certain flexibility regarding time coordination among the participants.
