Compulsory participation in an online study orientation

In compliance with article 10 of the General Admission Regulation (AZO), applicants for Bachelor programmes have to prove their compulsory participation in an online testing procedure provided by HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) before submitting their application. This self-test is an admission requirement and is supposed to provide guidance in making the right decision for the Bachelor degree programme of interest and shall help prevent a possible withdrawal from the studies. The participation in this self-test is compulsory. However, it will not affect the selection process in terms of study places.

HCU offers this self-test procedure as part of the online study orientation for the available Bachelor programmes and allows its completion with the start of the application period from 1st June on.

You will have the opportunity to register for the self-test in order to save already answered sections and to continue with the remaining parts of the test at a later point if you wish. Should you decide to complete the online study orientation anonymously and without any registration, please be advised that it will not be possible for you to save your answers between the different test sections.

After finishing the online study orientation, you will be provided with an 8-digit code that needs to be stated on your ahoi online application. Please make a note of the relevant code if you completed the self-test anonymously.

The ahoi online application can only be submitted electronically with a valid online testing procedure code. Invalid codes will be deleted by the system immediately.

Registration on Hochschulstart.de

If you want to apply for the bachelor degree programmes Architecture, Civil Engineering, Metropolitan Culture or Urban Planning (only first semester) you have to register for an account on Hochschulstart.de. After that you will receive a unique applicant ID and an applicant authorization number (BAN). You will need both your applicant ID and your BAN to submit your online application.

International applicants

Applicants with a non-German higher education entrance qualification (only for an application for a bachelor degree programme) or with a non-German first academic degree (only for an application for a master degree programme) have to apply additionally viauni-assist. Only if both applications are completed before the end of the application deadline you can take part in the selection process.

Decision

The Student Service Center will inform you in the first part of August by email about the result of your application. Your admission or rejection letter will be available via your ahoi-account under the menu item 'My Documents'. Please make sure that you always have your login details for the application portal available.

You will have 7 days time to enroll. You will find the deadline to accept the study place on your admission letter.

If you have applied for a DoSV study programme, the admission letter will be available in your ahoi-account under the menu item 'My Documents'. The notification will be posted in your ahoi account on the next working day, if you have actively accepted the course offer through Hochschulstart or you have been granted automatic admission. Hochschulstart will issue the rejection letter after the coordination process has been completed. The rejection letter will be available in the Hochschulstart user account.

Note:

Please save the admission or rejection letter on your personal computer. As your application account in ahoi will be deleted after the end of the enrolment period, it will not be available anymore for download and cannot be generated again. In some cases, public authorities need this notification for different purposes like grants or child benefits.

If you have any further questions about the application, please contact us via our online contact form.

We wish you all the best with your application at the HafenCity Universität Hamburg!
